Farm experience: Sheep Shearing 2021Do you love knitting or just have a favorite wool sweater? Ever wonder about the journey from farm animal to yarn studio? This guided experience will show you the first steps in the process of turning fleece into wool.
Join Kevin Ford, the top hand shearer in the United States and 7th in the world, as he nimbly works is magic at neighboring Hythe Farm. Kevin has been honing his craft for many years and you will marvel at his prowess. The ewes that you've been watching all spring birth and raise these sweet little lambs are desperately in need of a hair cut. We will weigh, bag, and tag the fleece before relocating it to the barn at the Phineas Wright House for skirting and prepping to be spun. Bring your lunch! You'll be here awhile.
