Then, the delightful chore of reacquainting myself with our décor that had been in storage for 3 ½ years. Come to find out, I have 8 sets of stockings! Perfect for our 8 fireplaces! We had 75 new friends walk through the Phineas Wright House on that rainy Sunday afternoon and it was so fun to hear other people’s stories about our house. One woman used to drive by on the weekends with her parents on their way to visit her grandmother. If she had fallen asleep, her dad would always wake her to see the “big fish” that apparently adorned the fireplace in the library several years ago. What do you know? Her father is in a nursing home now and she was eager to tell him that she finally made her way inside the “fish house”. I love being a part of the story this old house continues to tell.
Our cutie-pie town, Bolton, MA just turned 275. As a part of the year long celebration the historic society hosted a wreath sale and home tour. All the owners of antique houses were contacted about their willingness to join the fun and I was quick to say, “yes, please!” I realize that we just moved in, but I clearly can’t wait another 275 years for a chance to have strangers come for a visit, right? Plus, the December 1 date seemed so far away in August when I signed up. Who knew that would end up being the Sunday immediately following Thanksgiving? Well, someone who looked at her calendar, I guess, but it caught be by surprise. Obviously, I cannot have Christmas decorations up at Thanksgiving so Friday and Saturday were a flurry of activity. You know, the kind of cleaning you do when you know a lot of strangers will be walking through your house? Boy, were there a lot of spider webs!
